December 3, 2024Brillouin spectroscopy holds potential to become a disruptive tool for measuring fundamental mechanical properties in different fields, including mechanobiology, life sciences and medical diagnostics. Unlike standard elastography methods, Brillouin spectroscopy provides the opportunity to optically characterize different elastic moduli without the need of contact and at high spatial resolution in 3D. In bio-related applications, the non-destructive mechanism is crucial to assess biological systems in-vivo, providing the opportunity to study the underlying biomechanical changes during the onset and progression of diseases. In this seminar, I will present both my scientific and entrepreneurial journeys to advance the state-of-the-art in Brillouin spectroscopy, turning a potentially disruptive system conceived in a laboratory environment into a real product.
