November 28, 2024The National Academy of Lincei awards Professor Marco Bellini with the international recognition “Prof. Luigi Tartufari” for his contributions to physics and chemistry.
Marco Bellini, a research director at the National Institute of Optics (CNR), has been awarded the prestigious International “Prof. Luigi Tartufari” Prize in Physics-Chemistry by the National Academy of Lincei, sharing the honor with Professor Paolo Samorì from the University of Strasbourg. This recognition highlights Bellini’s extensive and innovative scientific contributions, particularly in the fields of ultrafast optics, nonlinear optics, and quantum physics.
The award citation emphasizes Bellini’s pioneering experiments on the coherence of supercontinuum and high-order laser harmonics, conducted at the European Laboratory for Nonlinear Spectroscopy (LENS) and the CNR-INO laboratories in Florence since 1997. These studies played a crucial role in paving the way for the Nobel Prizes in Physics awarded to Theodor W. Hänsch in 2005 and Anne L’Huillier in 2023.
Currently, Bellini’s research group is among the world leaders in quantum light engineering. Their studies focus on testing fundamental principles of quantum mechanics and developing new quantum technologies, which promise to significantly impact daily life and the future of science.
