April 30, 2018Plasmonics is the study of collective electron excitations in condensed matter, including in particular nanostructured media, with many advanced applications in photonic devices. The journal Physics of Plasmas has published a Special Topic collection of invited papers on “Plasmonics and solid state plasmas” in order to “to bridge the gap between plasmas and plasmonics” (from G. Manfredi’s editorial). The collection contains two papers devoted to the extension of plasmonics to extremely high fields and authored from CNR/INO researchers: an outlook paper “Surface plasmons in superintense laser-solid interactions” by Andrea Macchi (https://doi.org/10.1063/1.5013321) and a research paper on “Extensive study of electron acceleration by relativistic surface plasmons” by Giada Cantono et al (https://doi.org/10.1063/1.5017706).
