CNR-INO and Opificio delle Pietre Dure renew their historic collaboration: The goal is to create a research hub of international reference.
April 30, 2024From lanterns to quantum physics, Villa il Gioiello recalls Galileo’s experiment on the speed of light
May 17, 2024The second edition of “Il Senso delle Stelle” has been inaugurated at Villa Galileo, an artist residency project to spread scientific culture through a rich and structured program that brings the world of art into contact with that of science. Created thanks to the collaboration between the institutions of the Colle di Arcetri, the constant commitment of the CNR INO continues in researching and promoting new contemporary languages capable of spreading scientific culture throughout society and generating experiences of common growth.
The artist selected this year for the project is Daniela De Paulis, whose multimedia practice combines performance, sound and video and focuses on the concept of Space in its broadest meaning, through the filter of radio astronomy, neuroscience and cosmology. The outcome of his stay in Arcetri will be the production of the exhibition “Inner Worlds, Outer Spaces” for Villa Galileo, in dialogue with the history of the place and the themes of the school. At his first solo exhibition in Florence, De Paulis will investigate the interactions that keep the Universe alive with the aim of transporting us from a geocentric and anthropocentric perspective to a cosmic perspective, in which we can find similarities between the nature of Space and our existence on Earth.
Curated by Valeria D’Ambrosio, the exhibition will be accompanied by a rich satellite program which, including guided tours, laboratory activities and meetings with experts, will allow the public to delve deeper into the scientific themes that inspired the works on display. With the Divagation Laboratories and the Science Fiction Dialogues, the physicists Pietro Centorrino and Franco Bagnoli will lead us in the exploration of fascinating fields such as dark matter, moonbouncing, quantum cryptography and neuroscience.
The inauguration ceremony of the “Inner Worlds, Outer Spaces” exhibition was held on Saturday 4 May, with the participation of the CNR INO director Francesco Saverio Cataliotti. The conference Quantum Cryptography will be held on Saturday 18 May, at 7pm, with Sebastiano Cocchi, physicist (CNR INO and Unifi) and Giulia Guarda, physicist (CNR INO and LENS).
