Abstract: The minimum luminance increment above absolute threshold which allows to attain the temporal resolution is recorded for different values of the ratio of interpulse interval Delta t to total integration time tau c. The lesser Delta t / tau c is, the greater the liminal luminance increment is. This effect is tentatively explained by assuming that close to the absolute threshold the temporal resolution involves more than two “frames”, because of the differences between the response characteristics of various receptors (or units). The adequate increase of luminance, levels these differences.
