This works was born thanks to the tight collaboration between INO and University of Texas at Austin. The aim of the research is to study, characterize and use novel Quantum Cascade Laser sources. These new sources exploit non linear processes ongoing inside the laser active medium in order to generate Far-IR (i.e. THz) coherent radiation. Possible applications of these radiation range from the biomedical field to homeland security, from global pollution monitoring to food quality control. Thanks to the innovation of our research, these new kind of sources will be working at room temperature. will be easy to transport and will therefore be easy to use for ‘on field’ applications.
