Measurement of radius of curvature with contact spherometers

Abstract: The measurement of radius of curvatura with contact spherometers is reviewed, with special attention to factors affecting accuracy. In the mainframe of workshop upgrading to DIN 58166, the pair’s sagitta method is referred improving the measuring accuracy of test plates. Verification procedures of the system parameters are given, and temperature effects are discussed. An advanced measuring facility is described meeting the tolerance requirements of DIN 58166, interfaced to proper informatic media for data acquisition and handling.
