Abstract: Summary form only given. To enhance the conversion efficiency of single-pas Stokes generation starting from noise, an oscillator-amplifier system has been devised in which a first fiber acts as a Stokes generator and a second one as a power amplifier. To get quantitative information a theoretical analysis which furnishes the optimum working conditions for a fiber Raman oscillator-amplifier system was developed. Experimental results on these UV high-efficiency wideband Raman amplifiers are presented.
